We encounter very low levels of radiation from various natural sources every day. Meanwhile, radioactive materials are utilized in many different applications.

It is of course very important that we are protected from the harmful effects of radiation. However, we cannot deny the enormous benefits that radiation can bring us, i.e. in medical treatment and in other industrial applications.

When we recognize this, what we need to do is to have a “correct understanding” of radiation, and not to hold a negative view of radiation at all times.

For this purpose, Chiyoda Technol offers teaching aids named “Alpha-chan” and “Beta-Boy”, ideal for providing basic knowledge of radiation.“Alpha-chan” is used for measuring alpha particles, while “Beta-Boy” is used for beta-ray measurement.

Together with these tools, we provide sample materials emitting radiation, which people can actually measure and learn about the presence of radioactive materials in the environment of their daily life.

These teaching tools have proved to be very useful in acquiring a correct understanding of radiation, having been used at many different places including junior and senior high schools, visitor centers of nuclear power plants, lecture halls, etc.

At work fronts where radioactive materials are handled, it is essential to take all possible measures and ensure safety through the simulation of how the contamination will spread or what decontamination measures must be taken.

Our decontamination simulator “D-Sim” is best suited to such simulation work.
With our D-Sim, you can improve contamination resistance, if any radio active materials are used, and the contamination processes, etc. can be validated by using the pseudo contamination material “Simulant”, without touching the contamination materials.

Our D-Sim is best suited for training to decontaminate radioactive materials and harmful chemicals because it is highly sensitive at detecting invisible contamination and allows you to quickly check the decontamination results.

In addition, you can randomly set the assumed contamination situation, and set out measures for the non proliferation and decontamination, according to the contamination level. All in all, the D-Sim is an indispensable simulator for establishing safety.

Mainly for use in educational organizations including universities, Chiyoda Technol offers an educational tool kit "AktiLab", which will promote understanding of radioactivity.

Since a generator of a short-life radioactive nuclide Ba-137m (with the half-life of 2.6 minutes) is employed and a detailed experiment guidebook is also attached, the kit is most conducive to encourage an understanding of radioactivity through various basic experiments.

The basic experiments include:
• Investigation of the statistical properties of radioactive decays.
• Measurement of the plateau characteristics of GM counters.

• Measurement of the half-life of Ba-137m.
• Absorption of gamma-rays by lead.
• Inverse-square law of the radiation dose.
• Calculation of radioactivities of radiation sources.

In addition, various radioactive nuclides are available as options, and various basic experiments can be performed with these nuclides.

∗ Optional nuclides are prepared at suitable activities which provides the optimum results when the experiments stated in the guidebook are performed.
